Pocket PC 2003 and 802.1x - it works! Part A

We recently moved to 802.1x encryption for our wireless network.

When it came to considering using the WiFi capable M2000 devices with the network the journey seemed like it would be a long and painful one.

Well it wasn't long ;)

In order to have the devices working we needed to import our user certificates onto the phones.

The first, but obvious attempt failed - export the user cert onto the device and import it into the certificate store. It didn't seem to recognise the format.

Enter google. Seems lots of people had the problem, but no apparent solution.

Too early to give up. What we had was a format issue. Surely some clever person had developed a tool we could use.

Googled a bit more.

Enter Mr Jaco de Leeuw and crtimport.

Long but detailed instructions that work.

Of course but 10 minutes later a colleague found a much easier way of doing it :D More on that in part B...
